The importance of tires in autumn

It is a fundamental part of our vehicle. Tires guarantee the safety of our vehicle and provide us with maximum comfort. With good quality tires, everything is advantageous, but what happens if this is not the case? By choosing low quality tires, the performance of our vehicle is considerably reduced as well as the risk of skidding. But we must not only take into account the quality but also its maintenance. Tire pressure must be taken into account to avoid increased fuel consumption and above all for safety.

As we told you in the previous post , it is the time of year when temperatures drop, leaves fall and rain increases. For this reason, it is very important to take into account our safety, especially that of our vehicle if we spend a lot of time on the road. Autumn can be a good time to do so.

And don’t forget that in Andorra, from November 1st to May 15th, the use of winter tires or carrying chains is mandatory . Otherwise, you risk being penalized with a fine.

Why is it a good time to change them?

Mainly for the reason we are sharing with you: rain and temperature changes encourage this change. In addition, during the summer months a lot of dirt is placed on the road (vehicle grease or dust) and what can happen if your tires are very worn is that they are not as grippy as they should be. Did you know that braking can be complicated by up to 40% due to this situation?

In case of rain, it is even more important to use good tyres. In the following image, you can discover a test carried out with different tyre conditions and the consequences of braking.

What can you do to avoid wasting your tires?

We would like to take this opportunity to share some tips that may be of help to you.

  • Check your tyre pressure . You can find the recommended pressure for your vehicle on the driver’s door. Our advice is to check it at least once a month. Never put more pressure on your tyres: this may help you save petrol but it is a big mistake for your safety, as the tyre will not have good grip on the road and therefore wear and tear will increase and the tyre will become unsafe.
  • If one day your tire gets hit , we recommend that you check it carefully and if you notice any problems, visit your trusted mechanic.
  • Check the tread depth. The legal minimum is 1.6 mm for normal tyres, but it is ALWAYS recommended to change them when the tread depth is less than 3 mm (or 4 mm for winter tyres).

Remember! It is very important to check the condition of your tires.
