Insurance for the self-employed, why and which are necessary?

Self-employed or self-employed workers are usually at a disadvantage compared to salaried or employed workers in any activity.

They have to be very clear and take charge of what they need to deal with any unforeseen event that may arise, such as a sick leave or business inactivity due to a computer attack. It will also depend on the activity of the business or trade. The needs and/or coverages will not be the same for an on-line service business or for a florist’s shop, or even if you have employees or not.

Below we detail which company and health insurance policies are mandatory and which are recommended:

Multi-risk Insurance, SMEs and/or Commerce

  • In the case of a SMEMandatory insurance, in the case of having a company, in which the basic guarantees such as fire, theft and operation are insured, in addition to specific and adaptedcoverage according to the activity and particularities of your business or company.
For example, if an employee causes personal or material damages to third parties, the expenses caused to a third party are covered.
  • In the case of CommerceCompulsory insurance, which insures the premises and your goods against any mishap that may affect your commercial activity. With a wide coverage in the building and in the content against possible damages produced by the most common claims.
For example, if as a result of a claim you cannot open your business, you recover the economic losses up to the contracting period.

Liability insurance

  • Covers economic damages, personal and material damages caused to third parties with liability of the entrepreneur or self-employed. With specific coverage for operating civil liability and civil liability for liberal professionals.
For example, if you are a painter and in your professional activity you drop a can of paint on a parked car, you will be covered for the cost of the damage.

Health insurance

These are highly recommended, since the self-employed with what they contribute to the Cass is not enough to cope with any medical contingency.
For example, do you know what are the benefits for total or partial disability of the Cass? Do you know what you would receive in the event of sick leave as a self-employed person?

  • Subsidy:Recommended for employees or self-employed persons who contribute to the Andorran Social Security and who want to guarantee 100% of their salary or monthly income. You will have 100% of your salary covered in case of sick leave.
For example, if you suffer a sick leave that prevents you from continuing to work, you will be guaranteed the totality of your salary.
  • Complement Cass:Guarantees the reimbursement of the complementary part that is not paid by CASS (25% in the general case). Assap has the extended Cass Complement which, in addition to covering the return of 25% of the total medical and pharmaceutical expenses incurred by the insured or their beneficiaries (and which are not covered by the Andorran Social Security Fund), guarantees the reimbursement of medical expenses in approved centers in Spain.
For example, if you have a medical test in a prestigious center in Barcelona and which is one of the centers approved by the company, you will be reimbursed the total amount of the expenses.
  • Life:Not only in case of death, but also in case of deathIn the event of death, but also in the event of permanent or absolutedisability that prevents you from continuing to work. For example, in the event of death and/or disability, your family will be able to continue their current standard of living for 3 years.
For example, if you suffer a disability and are unable to earn any income for your family, your mortgage expenses will be covered.
  • Accidents:This insurance is essential if you always carry out your activity by car and you are constantly traveling inside and/or outside Andorra. It guarantees compensation for the beneficiaries in the event of an accident of the insured causing death or partial/absolute disability.
Also recommendedfor people who work in a risky profession.
For example, if you suffer a traffic accident and become disabled, all medical and financial expenses are covered; or if you only suffer a temporary sick leave, all financial expenses are also covered.
  • Cyber protection insuranceThis insurance is designed for companies and online businesses, it is suitable to be protected against any incident of this type. Prevention is the best way to protect your business, and guarantee maximum security, since it has some of the following coverage: protection against theft, extortion, losses due to interruption of activity or data leakage, damage coverage, and other problems that may arise from a cyber-attack. The question to ask yourself is: Why do I need cyber insurance? Could my company cope with a cyber-attack? Could I face, for example, the paralysis of the business or an extortion for information theft?
To recover from an attack can cost a lot of money, the average cost per attack is 50.000€, and 60% of the companies that have suffered a cyberattack have to close about 6 months later. For this reason it is highly recommended and depending on the activity of your business, it is essential to take out cyber protection insurance.
For example, if a hacker gains access to your system and prevents you from accessing your files, we will restore it so that you can continue working.

Vehicle insurance

  • In the case of having one or more company vehicles they must be insured. For example, if the vehicle is new, it will have to be contracted at All Risks and have covered all expenses to third parties, derived from an accident caused by us, and in addition, own damages.
For example, if someone steals your car, we will pay you the cost of a new car, same value during the first 2 and/or 3 years.
