Has it ever happened to you that you are great all year round, and then during the holidays you get sick?
We explain the diseases that you can avoid during the summer and especially during your vacations;
- Dehydration and sunburn
With high temperatures, such as those we have experienced in recent days, our body loses liquid very quickly and if we do not ingest more than what is lost, dehydration occurs.
Symptoms include: Very thirsty, dry mouth, dry skin, feeling tired, dizzy, and sweating less than usual.
To avoid this, you should drink plenty of water throughout the day, avoid drinks containing sugar and caffeine, and do sports during the hottest hours of the day.
As for avoiding sunburn, above all, always apply high-protection sunscreen and reapply every hour or half hour.
For small children, make sure to provide them with sun-protective shirts and caps.
- Urinary and digestive infections
These are the most common; As for digestive problems, it is the time of year when food is most likely to be in poor condition and therefore its consumption could cause contracting the bacteria ‘E. coli’.
Food should be kept in a cool place and avoid storing food in sauces and broths. Fruit and vegetables should also be washed thoroughly before eating.
Urinary tract infections are caused by moisture in our swimsuits as a result of swimming in the sea or pool.
It is recommended to shower after each contact with sea or pool water and to change from a wet swimsuit to a dry one.
- Emerging diseases
These would be all those derived from a mosquito bite, such as dengue, zika or chukungunya.
With the arrival of the holidays, we only think about enjoying the beaches, swimming pools, rivers and even mountains. These are ideal places to survive the heat, but unfortunately they have some travelling companions such as the tiger mosquito or the black fly, which can ruin our days of rest.
We can contract these diseases mainly through the tiger mosquito. It is essential to always carry mosquito repellent with you, but also to take into account the following recommendations:
. Alejarse del agua estancada.
. Llevar ropa que cubra la mayor parte de nuestro cuerpo, como la manga larga y pantalones largos.
. Comprar los repelentes que contengan Deet, IR3535 e Icaridina.
. En caso de picadura, evitar rascarse la zona.
