With the arrival of snow, our roads are filled with salt , which can be corrosive to our vehicles . In addition, low temperatures, especially for vehicles that “sleep” on the street during the night , can be a problem.
Keep in mind that during the winter, maintenance work on our vehicle is more important than during any other season of the year .
To ensure that all this does not become a headache and an expense in our pocket , we will have to follow these rules before we get going:
- Always check the fluid level , especially always use antifreeze (change it every 40,000 km)
- As for oil , always use one with a low viscosity to give more resistance to the engine .
- Leave the vehicle engine running for a few minutes before starting to drive .
- Consider the fuel : it would be dangerous if it froze, so add additive .
- Check the condition of the windshield wiper blades .
- Check that the brake pads have not frozen.
- Check the vehicle’s lights to make sure none are burned out.
- Check the condition of the wheels .
- And the most important thing is to clean the wheels , rims , underside of the car and
- the bodywork .
We will avoid the corrosion that road salt can cause.
In addition, we remind you of some tips for driving safely in the snow :
First of all, we must make sure that our vehicle is in optimal condition. It is advisable to check it before making any journey . In this sense, we must also have winter tires or chains that are suitable for the wheels of our vehicle .
Before hitting the road , make sure to bring snacks , such as a snack and water, so that in case of a roadblock we will have some refreshments while we wait for assistance .
Once you are on the road , drive slowly and avoid braking suddenly . If you want to reduce speed, do so with the engine brake .
Keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. If you lose control of the vehicle , do not brake, but turn the steering wheel in the same direction as the rear of the vehicle . If you get stuck in the snow , rock the vehicle back and forth repeatedly by putting it in second and reverse gear .
Aside from these tips, always check the weather and road conditions before leaving.
