Advantages of teleworking

If someone had told us that at the beginning of 2020 we would end up working from home, we probably wouldn’t have believed it. But with all the events that have happened over the last few months, many of us find ourselves in this new situation that, who knows, may end up being permanent. But not all is bad news this year, as teleworking brings a series of benefits to our daily lives that we did not enjoy before, both for workers and for companies.

  1. Work-life balance: Employees who work remotely are better able to organize their time, and may not have as many distractions as in an office. In other words, they can accomplish more in less time. This allows for more time during the day to complete personal tasks, which in many cases was not possible when working in an office. This “extra” time helps balance work and family life, which increases employee happiness and productivity.
  2. More flexible hours: Flexible hours are one of the biggest benefits of teleworking. Employees have the opportunity to create their own schedule and agenda, tailored to their productivity style. If someone decides to sleep in a little longer and start work later, they can do so. And if for some reason they like to work at night, they can finish the work while everyone else is sleeping. Instead of skipping work hours or wasting hours in an office, employees can get the work done when it’s most convenient for them.
  3. Cost reduction (for the company): Teleworking means that there will be fewer employees in the office. This fact can make it possible to reduce the work space, that is, to have a smaller office. Even if the team grows, one will not have to worry about the available space in an office. Since rents are increasing year by year, these costs will be reduced for the company, and they can be allocated to other more important matters.
  4. Reduced expenses (for the employee): Teleworking does not only mean benefits for the company, but also for its employees. Savings on gasoline, public transportation, meals, work clothes, parking… helps the employee to save more effectively. Less expenses mean that their salary will not be reduced as much at the end of the month.
  5. Ease of concentration: As we mentioned above, without coworkers to distract us, employees can concentrate more on their tasks. Without these distractions, they will surely also do a better job since their attention will be focused on the work.
  6. Teleworking may be the future of work: Teleworking can become a lifestyle for many of us if we know how to organize ourselves and adapt to this new reality. It can make us more efficient, more productive and happier, and it presents benefits that we may not have anticipated until we found ourselves.
